After falling in love in central Europe with the whole sauna experience, it was inevitable to construct our own back home.
Focusing on using locally sourced New Zealand materials we built the sauna ourselves. Macrocarpa was selected for the sauna construction as it's a close cousin to the traditionally used Cedar, creating a beautiful natural smell inside.
Sheep's wool is used for insulation of the ceiling, door and to fill in the cracks in the walls that developed as the wood dries.
At the heart of the sauna is our stainless steel wood fire creating a soothing warm glow as it heats the sauna to a comfortable 80°C.
Located in a secluded barked area, planted with native grasses and ferns. We offer an outdoor relaxation space and an outdoor cold shower to complete the sauna process. All softly lit with solar lighting.

Woodside sauna is open anytime in the evenings by appointment only. We need to light the fire which takes 90 minutes to get the sauna hot before you arrive. The sauna comfortably fits up to 4 people and we recommend at least 2 people for safety reasons.
